New zones, instrumented from day one
HKHong Kong designated four new fish culture zones, sited in open water suited to wind-and-wave-resistant cages combined with automated feeding and real-time monitoring, with new licences open through 2025 and 2026 under the AFCD, Hong Kong's agriculture and fisheries department. The licence covers the farming; the operating rules for those systems are yours to write.
The feeder decides the spend
APACUmitron, based in Singapore and Tokyo, ships a solar-powered smart feeder whose appetite-index AI reads fish behaviour from camera video in real time and adjusts feed amount and speed automatically, with the company reporting feed-cost reductions of 10 to 20 percent. Feed is the largest cost line, and a machine now sets it while you sleep.
The certificate is a records audit
APACBy mid-2025 more than 1,450 farms across Ecuador, India, Thailand and Vietnam held ASC certificates, with chain-of-custody certification required at every handler. As the feeder logs the feeding and the camera estimates the biomass, the certifier's evidence chain becomes AI-touched, and no certifier has published AI expectations for that evidence yet.

What AI is already doing
The production AI is regional by origin as well as by adoption: the reference vendors are headquartered in Singapore and Tokyo, the Government of Japan showcases AI-driven aquaculture as a national capability, and Singapore funds farms that pair recirculating systems with AI monitoring under a national plan. The technology arrives with public backing; the operating rules on each farm arrive only when the farm writes them.
Under a written position, AI already does defined work across an operation, each task with a named checkpoint before a record reaches a licensor, a certifier or a buyer.
Export and certification documentation
APACAI drafts the chain-of-custody and audit documentation that runs through ASC, BAP and buyer programmes, which keeps product moving through the region's export markets, and a named checkpoint confirms each document before it leaves the operation.
Incident-report first drafts
AI drafts the incident report that goes to two or three regulators at once from the operator's notes, which gets a fast draft under a four o'clock deadline, and a named person checks it against the event before any version is filed.
Feed and biomass summaries
AI summarises feed-conversion and biomass data from the farm software into the evidence the certifier and the EPA expect, which builds the certifier file as the season runs, and the manager confirms the figures against the source before the audit.
Licence and grant correspondence
AI drafts licence correspondence and grant-application text during an emergency-regulation period, which lightens the paperwork when an event hits, and a person reviews it against the licence conditions before it is sent.
Environmental-review drafting
AI drafts the annual environmental review from the monitoring data, which turns the monitoring record into a submission faster, and the manager checks each figure against the benthic record before it goes to the regulator.

Neither yet says anything about how AI may produce or touch those records, and Singapore's Model AI Governance Framework describes organisational governance without drafting your farm's version. A written AI position, an approved-tools register covering the monitoring stack and the office tools, and named checkpoints before AI-touched records reach SFA or an auditor is the layer between the framework and the farm.
